To the west, settlements in the Zagros have lower temperatures and harsh winters with below-zero average daily temperatures with snow. The eastern and central parts are dry and have deserted. Summer temperatures are around 38 °C (100.4 °F). The coastal parts of the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman in southern Iran have relatively mild winters and very humid and hot summers.
