It is the tenth busiest airport in Australia and is situated in the North Canberra region, about 8 km from the city center.

Direct flights are available from the airport to all state capitals in Australia, several regional hubs along the East Coast, and international hubs and leisure destinations such as Denpasar, Indonesia, and Nadi, Fiji. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Canberra was the hub for international travel to Singapore, Wellington, and Doha.
